Rekey or replace?
If your locks work well and you only want old keys to stop working, rekeying is the cheaper choice: the locksmith changes the pins inside the cylinder and hands you new keys. Replacement makes more sense when a lock is worn, rusted, damaged in a break-in, or when you want a higher grade deadbolt or a keypad lock. Rekeying and lock changes each have their own page with more detail.
A mobile setup at your door
The locksmiths we dispatch work from vehicles stocked with common lock brands, key blanks and cutting equipment, so most home jobs are finished in one visit without a trip to the hardware store. Specialty or high-security hardware may need to be ordered.
